Hey, guys! Today Steve tel story about crazy thing happened in his life and he want to talk about it.
"My parents have 2 kids – me and my older sister, Helga. We have quite a large age difference with her - about 10 years. So, we’ve never been friends. But we got along very well. She’s 25 now, she lives separately. She works and arranges her life. She even helps our parents, although our family is quite wealthy and she can spend her salary just on herself.
Well, my mom and my sister got an idea fix – to get my sister married. As soon as possible, better tomorrow, and doesn’t matter who is going to be the husband. I don't know, maybe they have their criteria and stuff. My sister’s never been married. But there have constantly been some talks about it since she was 18.
Well, that's their problem. I mean, I have some friends, girls and none of them is so crazy about getting married. Maybe it comes with the age? I think, it’s not really about the desire to marry someone.
One day Helga came to us and sang like a nightingale. She met a man - he was clever, handsome, rich and ready to marry. Everyone congratulated her. Of course, they discussed the details of parents meeting, the wedding date and some other stuff. So, they were going to organise and celebrate wedding. They started preparing like crazies as if it was not a wedding but the Nobel prize ceremony.
And then a tragedy came into our family. My dad was a humble and quiet man (especially, compared to my mom). He always provided our family. He worked at a factory, on the production. He was a process engineer. His duties included checking the factory equipment and cleaning systems. This work itself was not complicated at all. It was mostly automated. But sometimes he had to climb somewhere and check or fix something.
That year the summer was a real hell - 104 degrees. My dad was at work and he had to climb somewhere in the waste treatment facilities. It was mandatory to wear protection suits there. But the thing was the protection was not designed for such heat. So, methane began to rise in the pipes from the high temperature and it was hard to breathe. My dad got there as there was an urgent need to fix something inside because the whole production process had stopped.
People said he immediately suffocated to death … well, maybe he suffered only a couple of minutes. There was another worker and a security guard with him - the worker also immediately died but the guard who tried to save them was reanimated. Maybe he didn’t breathe in so much methane. So, there were two corpses at a factory. One of them was our dad.
Well, we needed to bury him. My mom cried, I cried too and my sister cried at her loudest. You know why? Exactly three days later, on the funeral day, she was supposed to celebrate wedding! So, she wasn’t mourning our dad. It was just because of her wedding!
And then the real madness began. Helga's groom suggested to postpone the wedding, his parents said that it was impossible to have fun on the funeral day, but my sister was relentless. And my mom, who lost her husband… supported her! They kept saying that dad had always been dreaming of seeing his daughter marry. He just didn’t make it for a couple of days. And the funeral? The funeral can be postponed!
Can you imagine that? These two women were really serious about postponing my dad's funeral because of the wedding! I was shocked and stunned all this time. The groom's parents seemed to be horrified, like me. The groom himself was nervously giggling something that he hoped he wouldn’t see a coffin at the table. I could see he was not happy that he fit into this. But my family were relentless – the wedding must be! I was wondering that time if they would drag the groom to the ceremony in case he refused … or what?
Anyway, look: a totally happy bride sitting next to a smiling mother, a hall for 150 people, half of them are our relatives… and stunning faces of the guests. Everyone knew that meanwhile our father was lying in the morgue, waiting for his funeral. Nobody could understand why they celebrate wedding in such circumstances with that chocolate fountain, music, master of ceremonies and stuff.
Personally, I had the impression that we were dancing on my dad’s grave. I mean, really. I didn’t have any desire to have fun and drink for the young couple like other guests. I was even too shy to look straight in the faces of groom's parents. There was such a condemnation in their eyes that I was scared.
Anyway, the wedding passed, the pictures near the chocolate fountain were taken, and all the guests went home. Two days later we finally buried our dad. And the funeral was more than modest – just my mom, my sister and my grandmother".
